THE CHURCH HISTORY
OF THE PAGEVILLE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH
September 24, 2025
145 Years
In the year of 1880, Rev. Adam Page founded and organized the Pageville Baptist Church with the help of the Rev. Isaac Smith. He was reminded of his summons of the Holy Spirit, who called him three times saying "Adam, go build a house for the Lord." He finally ventured out and discovered God's will for his future people. At the frail age of 73, he envisioned a place where God's house would be built, and so, he cut a sapling to mark the place then knelt and prayed. Rev. Page arose and sought the help of the Rev. D.C. Smith along with others, and they cleared the spot where the building would be located. The building was a plain box building. Benches were made of the same materials with few windows and doors.
The Rev. Page pastored for a number of years until he died in 1903 at the age of 93. He was buried on the churchyard and his grave remains on the ground and marks a very historical high point for the Pageville Baptist Church.
The church stood for many years until one day it was destroyed by a storm. With the help of the faithful deacons, S.H. Thompson, Steve Robinson, D. C. Smith, J.E. Garmon, Oliver Singletary, J.E. Warren, J.R. Randle, and Lewis Brown, they reconstructed the building. Upon completion they worship under a bush harbor under the pastorate of Rev. A.T. Rankins. While under the leadership of the Rev. A.T. Jordan, there was a disagreement in the church, which led to a splitting of the membership and the formation of the Mt. Oliver Baptist Church. These early members had great respect for the original church site, but later members desired a new location for the church.
The Pageville Baptist Church has had twenty-four pastors, beginning with the founder, Rev. Adam Page, H. Dade, William Jones, Jake Curtis, D. h. Rankins, Morgan Williams, A.T. Jordan, J.E. Jenkins, W.E. Smith, L. Denmon, J.K. Burton, W.C. Foster, E.L. Johnson, J.R. Roberts, B.T. Steward, W.L. Turner, L. Heard, Leo Taylor, Joseph, Daniels, Craig Rawls, W. D. Garrett, Rev. John McClain, Rev. Eddie Miller, Rev. Odell Pendleton, Rev. Martin Barnes and our present pastor, Rev. Arlan Potts.
On April 15, 2009, the church burned down to the ground. The Texas Baptist Men of Dallas Texas came down on March 8, 2010, and build the inside of our 6400 square feet steel building. The community came together, members, community pastor’s and churches, family and friends and hired laborers all, came together and completed the Pageville Missionary Baptist Church. With much prayer and work, the church was completed in less than one year. Eleven months to be exact. The Pageville Baptist Church family is on the moved for God and we shall continue to press toward the mark of the high calling, which is in Christ Jesus.

Nehemiah 4:6
21st Century King James Version
6 So built we the wall; and all the wall was joined together unto half its height, for the people
had a mind to work.
What We Believe
Mission Statement
It is the Mission of the Pageville Missionary Baptist Church, to walk together in Christian Love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.
Vision
The Pageville Missionary Baptist Church VISION is to see lives transformed by Jesus Christ, believers equipped for ministry, and our community changed through faith, service, and love.

Baptism
We believe baptism is an ordinance for believers and is practiced by full immersion. It is a public declaration of faith, symbolizing death to sin and new life in Christ.

Communion
We believe the Lord’s Supper is an ordinance and a sacred memorial of Christ’s sacrifice, observed by baptized believers in remembrance of Him.

Salvation
We believe salvation is a gift of grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Through Him, we are forgiven of our sins and given new life.
